Great Tech Resource
Diane Horvath shared this really great app with the librarians and I wanted to pass it along. Epic! for Educators allows teachers to access to tons of ebooks for free. You can even save them so you can read them offline and some titles can be read aloud. It includes classic and new titles like:
This could be great for pointing out nonfiction book features.

Book Club
- There are several second grade groups so far, but room for much more. Let me know if you're interested and you can find more info on my site.
- So far students are learning iPad basics, as well as the mind mapping app Popplet, and photo editing app Skitch. Soon members will app smash and combine projects using both apps.
- After reviewing parts of a story, students went on to use the popular story website, My Storymaker, then make visual stories using Flipagram. Highlights of projects will be posted on the Story Club webpage, along with other information.
- The Newspaper club is doing an excellent job learning types of stories, how to conduct an interview, and how to post articles on the Newspaper blog. They even have the opportunity to offer suggestions on each other's work.
- In honor of the Global Read Aloud Day, one session of Book Cafe is reading The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer Holm. Ellie ends up seeing her grandfather in a whole new light - because he's 17 again.
- Another group voted on listening to Oggie Cooder and his cheese charving talent (chewing cheese into the shape of states).

Global Read Aloud Is an initiative where people around the world read the same books at the same time. This year it began October 6th and it will last until November 14th. Second graders are reading the Global Read Aloud author Peter Reynolds in Library Class and some Third graders are reading the GRA book, The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer Holm in Book Cafe.
