Second grade students have been participating in Global Read Aloud. GRA is an initiative where people around the world read the same books at the same time. This year it began October 6th and it will last until November 14th. Students are reading the Global Read Aloud author Peter Reynolds in Library Class and focusing on the Common Core Literacy Standards SL.2.2 and SL.2.3. Check out the official webpage for more info or the Wheelock Library page for some highlights!
Third grade has been hard at work learning not only how to use the library’s catalog, but also accessing Time For Kids newspaper articles to critically read articles to determine facts versus opinions. They’re focusing on Common Cores Literacy Standard RI.3.7 to use information to demonstrate understanding.

Also, parent volunteers are a huge help to the library program and any level of assistance is greatly appreciated. Sign up for volunteering will be available through Signup Genius. Information about tasks and links to individual class signups is posted on the library website, or click here on "Volunteers" if interested.

Book Club
- Currently, several second grade groups are partaking in literature circles where they read and discuss at weekly meetings.
- So far students are learning iPad basics, as well as the mind mapping app Popplet, and photo editing app Skitch. Soon members will app smash and combine projects using both apps.
- After reviewing parts of a story, students went on to use the popular story website, My Storymaker, then make visual stories using Flipagram. Highlights of projects will be posted on the Story Club webpage, along with other information.
- The Newspaper club is doing an excellent job learning types of stories, how to conduct an interview, and how to post articles on the Newspaper blog. They even have the opportunity to offer suggestions on each other's work. The first edition will be out in a few weeks. New groups will begin when the trimester ends in December.
- In honor of the Global Read Aloud Day, one session of Book Cafe is reading The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer Holm. Ellie ends up seeing her grandfather in a whole new light - because he's 17 again.
- Another group voted on listening to Oggie Cooder and his cheese charving talent (chewing cheese into the shape of states).
