Seuss is on the loose in the Library! Every year, reading is celebrated in a nationwide effort called Read Across America. Using the father of Beginning Books, Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd as the date, children all across the country participate in some great reading activities. Here's what we've done:
School Wide Seuss Trivia
Each morning during the week of 3/3-3/7, we asked students a trivia question about Dr. Seuss. All correct answers then entered a lottery and the winner for the day received a Dr. Seuss book. Winners are posted on our Read Across America page.
In Library Class
In grade 2, we're reading Dr. Seuss' Oh the Places You'll Go. We've seen all of the magical places in Dr. Seuss' pages and have shared our own. Check out where our second graders want to go by clicking here.
Dr. Seuss led a fascinating life. In 3rd grade, we're learning all about it, from his childhood influences to his stilt walking research. See what we think is the most interesting on our Seuss page.
The Boston Readathon
On your mark, get set, go! Third graders are off to a great start on their Boston Readathon challenge. For every 1 book read in a class, that class gains 1/4 mile on our Boston Readathon racecourse. We'll be learning about the Boston Marathon in library and gym classes as well. The classroom that wins will earn an extra library or gym class. As a culmination, we'll be having famous marathoner Bill Rodgers come in to speak about his experience running the Boston Marathon. For more info and to see their progress, check out the library webpage.

Also in library class, we have been working on choosing books that are just right. For more information or help, check out the library page How to Choose a Book.
