The Wheelock School Community celebrates Books, Reading and Authors during our annual Wheelock Reads Week, May 18-22, 2015.
Throughout the week, we’ll have lots of activities planned and also be sending mystery readers to classrooms.
Updates, pictures, more details and links will all be available on the library website.
Here’s a preview of activities:
All Week (18th - 22nd)
Bookmark contest
Draw your very own bookmark for Wheelock Reads week. Blank bookmarks will be sent home for you to design and then hand in to the library by Friday, May 22nd. The winning bookmark from each class will be photocopied for the rest of your class to keep. Please do not color your design in, so when copied, others can color their own.
(We will give each class a set)
Horrible Harry Challenge (3rd grade)
Try to complete the Horrible Harry Challenge! Can you read at least 18 of Suzy Kline’s Horrible Harry books? Pick up a bookmark in the library to keep track. All who complete it will receive a Who Was bookmark and get to sign the Wheelock Window of Fame. 15 names will be selected to choose a library raffle prize.
One Book, One School (Recommended Read)
Join your classmates and teachers in reading the very same book. For Wheelock Reads Week, you’re welcome to join us in reading The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate DiCamillo

3rd Grade Author Visit: Suzy Kline

Wear Your Words
Express yourself with words! Everyone is encouraged to wear an appropriate t-shirt with writing on it. It will be the loudest quietest Tuesday!
Wednesday, May 20th
2nd Grade Author Visit: Diane deGroat
Diane deGroat has written and illustrated the Gilbert & Friends series, Annie Pitts, and many more books.
Friday, May 22nd
Book Character Dress-Up Day
There are so many characters that have come alive from the many books we’ve read. Let’s make them come alive at school! On Friday, come in to school dressed as an appropriate book character and enjoy walking down the halls of Wheelock. You’ll see some of our favorite stories in a whole new way.
